Biliary Tract Surgery Concomitant with Other Intra-abdominal Operation

Baek Kwi-Soon
Abstract
Biliary tract operations were performed in conjunction with another intra-abdominal operation in 59 patients. Of this group, 9 patietns had unplanned or incidenctal biliary procedures, with a morbidity rate of 45% and no deaths, two fo the 4
non-fetal
complications were related to the biliary tract surgery.
A planned biliary tract operation concomitant with another intra-abdomnal procedure was performed in 33 patients; with a morbidity rate of 15% and mortality rate of 3.3%. One of the 5 complications was related to the biliary tract surgery.
One death was attributed to the common bile duct exploration. A planned biliary tract proceudre plus another incidental or unplanned operation was performed in 71 pateints, with a morbidity rate of 17.8% and no deaths. one of the 3 non-fetal
complications was related to the biliary tract surgery The data suggest that it is feasible to perform concomitant cholecystectomy or cholecystostomy for biliary tract disease in patients operated on for non-biliary disease.
It is also reasonable for perform definite surgery for most intra-abdominal disease discovered incidental to a planned biliary surgery, Careful determine and surgical approach was recommended in emergent operation and common bile duct
exploration.
But old age and extension of skin incision were not restrictive factors. Pairing biliary tract surgery with other intra-abdominal surgery is advised as long as the patients condition is satisfactory.
